Warner/Pines Cabin |
Westcliffe, CO |
At an elevation of about 9200 feet, the Warner/Pines Cabin sits on the eastern slope of Spread Eagle Peak in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Central and South Colorado. The Cabin is only a short walk (about 200 meters) from the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness area and the Rainbow trail that runs some 90 miles along the eastern front of the mountain range.
There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails, fishing streams, and secluded high mountain lakes. A beautiful hike and fish can be reached from access just behind the Cabin to the Lakes of the Clouds. After five miles (and about 3000 feet of elevation!) you arrive at 3 breath-taking stair-stepped lakes overlooking the Wet Mountain Valley and teeming with wild Colorado trout. There are plenty of easier and more difficult adventures to be undertaken!
In the summer, a short 20 minute drive north brings you to the Arkansas River where you will find several white water rafting guides, the Royal Gorge, and delicious brown trout! In the winter, Monarch Ski Resort is a little more than an hour away for downhill skiing.
If all that sounds a little too energetic, then relax, sit out on the back deck of the Cabin and look out over the Wet Mountain Valley and Pikes Peak. Or use the 4 1/2 inch telescope to stargaze on a crystalline (cool) Colorado night. Or snuggle up in front of a cozy fire! It's your vacation!!
